Although this question seems essay, it has always trigged conflicting debate among people. At one side of the discussion, there is a group of people who feel that the goal of education is the potential accumulation of wealth and power. This group bases their argument on the fact that society measures success in terms of wealth and power. Many people, therefore, focus on accumulating as much wealth and power as they can to be considered successful in life. Every parent wants to see their children successful which they believe is only possible through education. For a long time, society has perceived education as the only way through which people can accumulate wealth and power they require in life. The community has been made to believe that the purpose of education is to make people secure good employment which allows them to accumulate as much power more wealth and power. On the other side of the debate is a group that argues that the goal of education should focus on promoting equality and character. Considering these two opposing sides, I concur with the idea that the goals of education should emphasize on enhancing equality and integrity. With the current education focusing on the accumulation of wealth of power, society has faced severe problems that indicated that

contemporary education is doing very little to help communities. With wealth and power being the center of success, the community has grown so competitive and immoral as people are trying to cumulate wealth and power (Gaisbauer, Rand 2 Gottfried and Clemens 8). Perhaps changing the focus of education to equality and character will help breed good values that will help improve society. It is true that the challenges that society faces are problems that occur due to inequality and bad character (Gaisbauer, Gottfried and Clemens 19). For instance, issues such as unemployment and poverty are a product of capitalist mentality and behaviors where people are so selfish that they accumulate so much wealth at the expense of other people in society. Also, the problems that hinder the development of human society such as corruption embezzlement of public fund occur because the community has emphases on wealth and power as measures of success. Most people who engage in these vices are the educated people in the society who are under pressure to seen as successful since they are made to believe that education is the only way to accumulate wealth and resources. Focusing the goal of learning on equality and character, therefore, will help in building good character and morality among the young people hence reduces social vices in the society. Focusing the goal of education on equality and character will help in developing the minds of the people to a significant level and hence removing all the differences in society. This approach to education will make people understand every aspect of human life and provide the ability to understand all human rights as well as their responsibilities to their country (Power 89). The debate about the focus of education continues with most people holding that the potential of wealth and power influences the goal of being educated. This kind of thinking has probably led to the current problem that contemporary society is experiencing such as corruption and embezzlement. Despite this being a basic right for every individual and a free ticket to the world of literacy, many people still find it difficult to send their children to college due to the expenses associated with it. (Weston ,4) tries to answer the question of if, college is still a wise investment or does it create too many debts to make it worthwhile. In her article, she argues that, for a country that requires more graduates from college, we look so determined on discouraging many people from acquiring degrees. The high cost of going to college is ever increasing and has not been able to be contained just yet, and also we have not yet been able to protect the low-income earners who want to join college. Nonetheless, a lot of college graduates and college students still argue that going to college is a risk that is worth it, they argue that the overall gain is more profitable than the cost of going through college education and graduating. With all the argument going around this subject, we should embrace going to college despite all the financial implications that it brings with it. We should all consider the idea that college is a wise investment though it creates too many debts to make it worthwhile as college education brings about literacy, creates employment and builds the nation’s economy overall. College education has brought with it multi-talented and critical thinkers in the various jobs available on the universe. As a result, it would be unjustified to say that college education is not worth it due to the minimal negative financial implications it brings to individuals that are thirsty for knowledge associated with it. College education in creating employment (Heckler, 2) tells us that from a wage point of view, college education has played in finding job security in the usually unstable and not predictable economy of this modern century. Research has shown that individuals who have acquired a bachelor’s degree and work full time can expect to get an income revenue of 84 percent higher than their cohorts with a high school diploma in the long run. In addition, college graduates are also entitled to benefits that their employers provide such as retirement benefits, health insurances that result in quality health and extended life spans. With all these benefits of college education, it can clearly be seen that the associated benefits outdo the high cost of putting an individual through campus till they graduate. College education in building the nation’s economy College education also helps the nation in growing its economy as the numerous college graduates from the various campuses across the nation get gainful employment and as a result they are able to return back to the community and also pay taxes and revenue that helps the Rand 3 government and its numerous operations like building roads, connecting its citizens to electricity and other important economic related developments. The graduates from college also bring about development in the society in terms of innovations and ideas. Conclusion College has since time immemorial been a safe haven for those that would have been otherwise lost in the world of illiteracy and stuck in poverty and unemployment. Some individuals are languishing in poverty because they weighed the cost of college education to its values and they decided to take the option of not carrying on with it. To help the education system, the United States government has introduced and already rolled out the education funding, they determine and establish the percentage of their budget that should go towards education. It is only fair that the federal government of the United States allocate 4% of the yearly financial budget to education.
